Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

The Foundation promotes academic cooperation between excellent scientists and scholars from abroad and from Germany. Research fellowships and research awards allow to come to Germany to work on a research project with a host and collaborative partner. As an intermediary organisation for German foreign cultural and educational policy the Foundation promotes international cultural dialogue and academic exchange.

Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB)

The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) is recognised as a centre of excellence for vocational research and for the progressive development of vocational education and training (VET) in Germany.
BIBB works to identify future challenges in VET, stimulate innovation in national and international vocational systems, and develop new, practiceoriented solutions for both initial and continuing vocational education and training.

German Academic Exchange Service

The German Academic Exchange Service is one of the world′s largest intermediary organisations in its field. Scores of students, teachers, researchers and scientists supported by the DAAD have been able to gain valuable experience abroad. The 200 and more programmes with which the DAAD pursues its objectives range from short-term exchanges for research or teaching purposes through to doctoral scholarships lasting several years for graduates from developing countries, from information visits through to the long-term regional programmes conceived to establish efficient higher education systems in the Third World.

German Research Foundation (DFG)

The DFG is the central, self-governing research funding organisation in Germany. Its mission is to fund and promote all fields of science and the humanities. It does so by relying on its statutory bodies and its Head Office, which shape the work and structure of the DFG. In an international context, the DFG is a member of several scientific and science policy associations, thus contributing to international dialogue, cooperation among researchers, and to the formation of a European Research Area.

Central organisation for Chambers of Industry and Commerce in Germany (DIHK)

The DIHK is the central organisation for 80 Chambers of Industry and Commerce in Germany. The DIHK has the special task of assisting the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs). The closely-knit network of Chambers of Commerce Abroad, delegate offices and representations in more than 80 countries on every continent of the world is of major importance to German industry in a world of global markets.

German Comission for UNESCO

The German Commission for UNESCO, based in Bonn, is the link between Germany and UNESCO. It acts as an intermediary of foreign cultural and educational policy, and is supported by the Foreign Office. It advises the Federal Government, Parliament and all other public bodies on UNESCO issues, as well as on selected issues in the competence of the Council of Europe.

iMOVE is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, designed to help Germany-based training organisations succeed in international markets by promoting "Training – Made in Germany" abroad.

Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO)

JETRO, or the Japan External Trade Organization, is a government-related organization that works to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world. Originally established in 1958 to promote Japanese exports abroad, JETRO's core focus in the 21st century has shifted toward promoting foreign direct investment into Japan and helping small to medium size Japanese firms maximize their global export potential.

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)

Having embarked on a new start as an ′independent administrative institution′ in October 2003, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) has become Japan′s core agency for supporting scientific advancement.

Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)

The mission of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. The OECD provides a forum in which governments can work together to share experiences and seek solutions to common problems. OECD works with governments to understand what drives economic, social and environmental change. OECD measures productivity and global flows of trade and investment and analyses and compares data to predict future trends.

Research in Germany

The programme to “Promote Innovation and Research in Germany” was launched by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in November 2006. “Research in Germany – Land of Ideas” is the trademark of this programme which promotes Germany’s research sector with numerous international events and public relations measures. The “Research in Germany” Internet portal is a partner of “Kooperation international”, a website which regularly posts information about cooperative events around the world.

Foundation of German Humanities Institutes Abroad (DGIA)

The Foundation of German Humanities Institutes Abroad (DGIA) is a legal entity closely linked to the German Federal Government located in Bonn. It comprises ten humanities research institutes. The Foundation’s goal is to promote research with a focus on history, culture, economic and social sciences in selected countries and to promote a mutual understanding between Germany and those countries.

Association of German Engineers (VDI)

Approximately five percent of presently 140.000 VDI members live abroad. As the leading German Association of Engineers and one of the largest in Europe the VDI promotes among other activities the worldwide education of engineers according to the requirements of the 21st century. The whole scope of the VDI international activities is based on and will be supported by a global network consisting of the so called VDI Chapters abroad and co-operation partners all around the world.

The Wissenschaftsrat (German Council of Science and Humanities) draws up recommendations on the development of science and research in particular of the university sector and thereby contributes to the safeguarding of the international competitiveness of German science in the national and European science system.
