For over four decades, the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research, CONICYT, has been the main driving force for the development of science and technology in Chile. In close association with universities, scientific and technological research centres and the productive sector, CONICYT has taken a leading role in improving the quality of life of the population and in promoting competitiveness of Chilean economy.
This publication provides a general overview of the institution, its programmes, initiatives and funding instruments, and the main achievements for 2010. These aim at strengthening scientific research and technological development, and applied science at national level and their international inclusion, the formation of researchers required by the country, and the dissemination among Chileans of a scientific culture that values the contributions and presence of knowledge in the everyday life.
