ERC calls for proposals 2020 launched

The European Research Council (ERC) has published its work programme for the last round of calls in Horizon 2020. Under the work programme 2020, the ERC provides funding for pioneering projects of excellent scientists from all fields of research in the amount of approximately 2.2 billion euros.

Researchers of any nationality are eligible, provided that the research project is carried out at an institution in the EU member states or associated countries.

The established funding schemes will be continued: “Starting Grants” for promising scientists (2-7 years after their PhD), “Consolidator Grants” for researchers 7-12 years after their PhD, “Advanced Grants” for established, active researchers and “Proof of Concept” for ERC Grantees seeking to explore the potential for the commercialisation of their idea. The ERC “Synergy Grants” provide funding to teams of 2-4 excellent scientists.

Grants are awarded for a maximum period of five years, with a funding amount of up to 2 million euros for Starting Grants (€1,5 million + additional funding possible of €1 million), 3 million euros for Consolidator Grants (2 + 1) and up to 3.5 million euros (2,5 + 1) for Advanced Grants. The maximum funding amount for Synergy Grants is 14 million euros (10 + 4) for a period of up to 6 years. The Proof of Concept scheme offers a supplementary amount of 150,000 euros for ongoing grants for a maximum period of 18 months.

The call for proposals for the Starting Grant scheme will be opened on 17th of July 2019 with a deadline on16th of October 2020. The Synergy Grant will be opened on 18th of July 2019 with a deadline on 5th of November 2020
