Germany and Israel are continuing their decades-long collaboration in water research with a new call for proposals. The German Federal Ministry of of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and the Israeli Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (MOST) are once again inviting researchers from both countries to submit proposals for bilateral R&D projects by August 19, 2025.
For the new deadline, applications are sought in the following research area:
- Innovations in water technologies and water systems
Priority will be given to projects based on novel ideas and potential industrial applicability. The projects must be prepared and carried out jointly by the Israeli and the German project partners. The 2025 call and the application form are also available for download on the following websites: www.cogeril.de, www.most.gov.il.
Please note that the submission process for Israeli applicants includes two phases: Pre-proposals must be submitted through the online system at https://kf.most.gov.il by August 12, 2025 (15:00 local time in Israel). The affiliated institution must then submit the final application no later than August 19, 2025 (local time in Israel).
For German applicants, only the August 19, 2025 deadline applies.
The bilateral cooperation between BMFTR and MOST with annual calls for proposals on current research priorities in the field of water technology has existed since 1974.
The overall goals of the cooperation are:
- To improve the water situation in Israel and the surrounding area and/or Germany. Transferability of results to similar regions should be ensured.
- To facilitate access to new markets for Israeli and German enterprises in the water and environmental sector.
- To support and strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the water sector as well as cooperation between science and industry.
Young researchers also have the opportunity to apply for the Young Scientist Research Program (YSEP).
