On the initiative of Władysław Bartoszewski, the Secretary of State & Plenipotentiary of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers for International Dialogue, an international conference will be held on 13 September 2011 at the Royal Castle in Warsaw to celebrate 20th anniversary of the Weimar Triangle. The conference The Weimar Triangle versus challenges of the future: The European Neighbourhood Policy and the EU Common Security and Defence Policy is to make a significant contribution to a detailed discourse on the future of this Polish-French-German cooperation platform and to outlining its development strategy in the fields of foreign 12 policy and security. The conference will focus on issues that are of prime importance not only for the Weimar Triangle itself, but also for the entire European Union. Seeking answers to the questions on the future of co-operation between Poland, France and Germany is an integral element of a discussion about the shape of the European Neighbourhood Policy and the EU Common Security and Defence Policy. Thus the Weimar Triangle today faces new challenges, which - through consolidated dynamics of mutual co-operation within that platform - may contribute to the integration processes in Europe. Today, particularly in the context of dynamic and turbulent political, economic and social transformations within the area covered by the European Neighbourhood Policy, the concept of the Weimar Triangle should become a source of various initiatives for our continent, defining its future shape for the following years.
Participation of prominent guests representing state institutions and expert organisations from France, Poland, Germany as well as Russia, Ukraine and Moldova will undoubtedly guarantee the achievement of the conference goals and ensure a high level of discussions.
