International Dialogue on Education: Decolonizing Higher Education

Duration: 28.10.2021 City: Berlin and online

Exploring Difference: "Decolonising Higher Education"

The thesis for this conference is that western knowledge and academia has contributed to and was an integral part of western imperialism and colonialism.  Decolonisation of higher education institutions is key for the improvement of course curricula, teaching and learning, staff and student wellbeing.

How is this issue being tackled around the world? Five academic experts from different countries and world regions will be participating in a panel discussion. The conference will be held in a hybrid format with a small scale audience at the Canadian Embassy to Germany in Berlin and options to participate online.

The workshop series ID-E Berlin International Dialogue on Education was established in 2007 and is a joint initiative of the British Council Germany, the German Academic Exchange Service, the German-American Fulbright Commission, the Embassy of Canada to Germany and the Freie Universität Berlin.

Through the contributions of international participants the series aims to enrich the debate on science, research and higher education policy in Germany, to place German perspectives in a global context and to learn from positive examples from other countries.
