German-Ukrainian partnership in sustainable environmental technology

The East‐West Science Center of the University of Kassel starts a two‐year project.

Germany and Ukraine are expanding theircooperation in climate protection and nature conservation in the context of theinternational climate change initiative from the German Federal EnvironmentMinistry. In June 2009, the German-Ukrainian Environmental Commission hasexplored ways of using the financial instruments of the Kyoto Protocol forcooperation in climate protection projects. Furthermore, Germany will support Ukraine in the approach to EUenvironmental standards and the implementation of EU partnership projects.
Theprocess is intended to support the project by

  • Establishment of cooperationprojects
  • Join events for (young) scientists from both countries 
  • Activemarketing for cooperation in research and development.

2009 an agreement onfuture cooperation in technology transfer between the TechnologyPark of the National Technical University of Kiev and the University ofKassel was signed.

The cooperation between the East
West ScienceCenter of the University of Kassel and the science and technology park “KyivskaPolitekhnika” should include the following activities:

  • Establishment of aresearch and development network in environmental technologies with a focus onenergy efficiency (building, production technology, mobility, economy), newmaterials / surfaces and renewable energy (battery, photovoltaic, biothermie)
  • Training programs in the area of Innovation Management, Technology Transfer andInternational Project Management.

In addition, the aim is the deliberateinclusion of scientists from the Ukrainein scientific events organized in Germany. Each year, 10 visitingscientists from Ukraine areinvited to attend events in Germanyand hosted by OWWZ.

German partners in the project include the CompetenceNetwork Decentralised Energy Technologies, deENet eV, theChemical Cluster in Bavaria and Jade University of Appied Sciences, Oldenburg. The initiativeis sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research.
