Major alumni conference and fair in Mexico City

Around 500 people, among them 400 Germany alumni, attended the "Conferencia Alemania Alumni 2010" on October 22 and 23 in Mexico-City.

On October 22 and 23, the Mexico office and the alumni division of DAAD’s central office, also representing further German funding organisations, held a large-scale conference and fair on the Alumniportal Deutschland (APD) in Mexico City.

“One of our main goals is to bring people together and looking at all of you today, I feel that once more we have succeeded in reaching this goal!”, commented Prof. Baldur Veit, member of the DAAD board of executives in his welcoming speech.

Alumniportal Deutschland unites organisations

The event took place in close partnership with the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation, InWENt, GTZ/CIM, AGEF and Goethe-Institut. It included a two-day alumni conference with an affiliated fair presentation of German companies and alumni associations from all corners of the country. Almost 500 people, among them around 400 Germany alumni, attended the conference for professional exchange, in order to make contact with representatives from industry and to gather information about the APD.

Following welcoming addresses by the German ambassador, Dr. Duckwitz, and a representative of the Mexican foreign secretary, there were further speeches by Prof. Baldur Veit, member of the DAAD board of executives, CONACYT’s delegate for international cooperation and the deputy director of CAMEXA, the German-Mexican chamber of trade.

Concentrated expertise on global challenges

After three expert introductions to the topics of „New media/Society“, „Climate and Energy“ and „Health/Food“, the conference divided into three groups. In podium discussions with distinguished participants, many of whom were alumni in key positions in economy, science, politics and culture, and in various workshops, discussions centred on the question of how German-Mexican cooperation can be shaped by Germany alumni and supported by social networks like the  Alumniportal Deutschland. The results have been published on the website.

Industrial Fair boosts Career Networking

The affiliated fair was open on both conference days and enjoyed great interest. As well as German cultural and educational institutions, political foundations and alumni associations, German companies with branches in Mexico (BMW, Bosch, Siemens, T-Systems, VW etc.) took an active part in the fair.
