Resources That Don’t Cost the Earth – Encouraging European Solutions and Collaboration

Germany, the UK and other European countries are almost exclusively dependent on the import of strategically important metals and rare earths for  their technology sectors. As global demand of strategic elements increases, these countries become vulnerable to shortfalls in supply.

This workshop will offer a platform to explore emerging technologies that help reduce reliance on scarce materials imports.  Development of alternative technologies and sustainable approaches to design and materials use, remains a long-term strategy that will require continued research investment to develop viable alternatives, as well as reviewing the implications involved with substitution in industry.

This workshop will identify emerging thinking, technologies and opportunities in Germany, the UK and other European countries for collaboration. It offers the opportunity to exchange best practices across Europe in four key areas:

  • Securing access to rare resources – extraction and partnerships
  • Resource efficiency and sustainable alternatives (substitutes)
  • Cost efficient and innovative recycling
  • Reducing waste in production and design – sustainability strategies

Prior registration is required for this workshop.
