The Summer Academy at the University of Koblenz-Landau

Like in every summer, the Faculty for Informatics at the University of Koblenz-Landau, Koblenz campus, has opened its doors for the annually held Summer Academy.

Over a period of four weeks, from June 27 to July 22, students from abroad took classes from the areas of management, informatics and web science together with local students.

Compared to the previous year, the number of participants has risen. More than 70 participants from 14 different countries, among them Bulgaria, Greece, Russia and Egypt, spent four informative weeks at the university in Koblenz. The Summer Academy organizers were particularly delighted about the growing interest among our partner universities in Oulu, Tampere und Jyväskylä – all in Finland- and Sumy in the Ukraine.

The courses – held in English - were designed by both local professors and experts from abroad. The highly international atmosphere helped students and lecturers gain scientific knowledge in their fields of interest and to form and engage in international networks with fellow academics who are interested in the same fields.

To help the students gain further insight into the procedures and everyday work of the European Union, the Summer Academy organized a three-day excursion to the European Parliament and the European Commission in Brussels. In numerous presentations and guided tours inside those institutions, the students obtained relevant information about the politics and the budget of the European Union.

Students participating in the Summer Academy not only gain scientific knowledge, but also acquire social and intercultural competences in a multicultural surrounding, as well as interesting insights into the German culture. Joint excursions and events - such as the traditional Goodbye Barbeque - enable students to get to know Germany from different angles.
Last but not least, we - the Summer Academy Team - would like to thank the Stipendienstiftung RLP (Scholarship Foundation from Rhineland-Palatinate) and Altran GmbH & Co. KG. Their supoort made it possible for us to offer scholarships to some of our most promising participants.
