University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence "Alexander von Humboldt" launches Fellowships

Coinciding with the sestercentennial: The University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence "Alexander von Humboldt" (“Bayreuth Humboldt Centre” for short) is launched. It invites outstanding international guest researchers to research visits at the University of Bayreuth (UBT), thereby consolidating the international character of the University of Bayreuth. To this end, fellowships and short stays are now being announced.

"The Bayreuth Humboldt Centre has a clear mandate to strengthen our international network," says University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible. The University of Bayreuth is known for its bi- and multi-lateral dual degree programmes. There is strong demand for foreign-language courses, joint doctoral programmes with foreign universities and summer schools. "What is allowing us to advance in our focus areas, in particular, are research projects in cooperation with top international researchers," says Leible, "very much in the spirit of Alexander von Humboldt, who gave the project its name”. The 250th birthday of the researcher, globetrotter, and active networker is being celebrated this year.

International research projects are to be funded in a targeted manner by "hosts", i.e. scientists working at the University of Bayreuth becoming research partners of the Fellows chosen, and working with them in the lab. Senior and Junior Fellowships are to be granted for a period of three to six months, worth €50 thousand and €30 thousand respectively. In addition, Short Term Grants lasting between one and three weeks are to be awarded, valued at a maximum of €3,500. Internationally recognized researchers from abroad are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is 15 and 24 November 2019 respectively.

In addition, strategic workshops will be provided with up to €20 thousand in funding to intensify cooperation between researches from the University of Bayreuth and international colleagues from existing and potential partner institutions. The first call for proposals will be published in winter.
