The Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics was founded by a government decree in 1950 as the Institute for Applied Mathematics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Next to the research work another duty of the Institute is the active support of mathematics teaching at various levels from undergraduate to postgraduate.
