Montenegro participates in the EU Research and Innovation programmes since 2008. Montenegro’s strengths in Horizon 2020 are in the fields of Health and in Energy. The overall performance of Montenegro in Horizon 202 has been improving substantially over the past years. Montenegro is the first country in the Western Balkans having completed the development of a Smart Specialisation Strategy. In the Smart Specialisation Strategy implementation phase, the focus will be on strengthening innovation related aspects, which is underlined by the good number of Montenegrin participants in the Innovation in SMEs part of Horizon 2020.
