Low carbon vehicles: £60 million for propulsion technologies

Business can apply for a share of £60 million to develop low-emission propulsion technologies

The Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) is seeking proposals for projects led by businesses that will deliver significant reductions in CO2 or other emissions.

UK strengths in powertrain engineering and low carbon innovation mean it has an opportunity to seize a global advantage as existing technologies and supply chains are replaced by new ones.

The APC was set up in 2013 by the government and the automotive industry to ensure the UK is a global centre of excellence in these new technologies.

It is working in partnership with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and Innovate UK to support innovative projects. This is the fourth round of funding. Around £90 million has already been allocated to more than 50 organisations in the first three rounds.

Projects must be based around one or more propulsion technology areas:

  • internal combustion engines
  • lightweight powertrain structures
  • electric machines and power electronics
  • energy storage and energy management
  • alternative propulsion systems
