Massachusetts exported over $27.7 billion worth of merchandise in 2011, a 5.35% increase over 2010. Based on 2-digit HTS classification, our leading export sectors in 2011 included medical devices ($5.6 billion), industrial machinery and computers ($4.8 billion), electrical machinery and equipment ($4.8), gold and precious metals ($3.3 billion) and plastics ($1.6 billion).
The top five export destinations for Massachusetts exports included Canada ($3.7 billion), UK ($3.2 billion), China ($2.09 billion), Germany ($2.05 billion) and Japan ($2.04 billion). Massachusetts ranks as the 15th highest exporting state in the U.S. and the top exporting state in New England.
