Danish pupils take the lead internationally in terms of using computers in subjects Danish, Natural Science and foreign languages. In Mathematics, Denmark comes in second place. 99,4 per cent of the Danish pupils attend schools with access to computers and 73 per cent also have access to laptops. 99,1 per cent of pupils go to schools where there is access to the internet.
The figures stem from an electronic reading test, a supplement to the “real” PISA test. Along with 19 other countries, Denmarks has opted to supplement the paper-based reading test with a test of 15 to 16-year-olds’ ability to read, navigate and critically assess electronic texts. In this context, Denmark ranks as number 13.
Minister for Education, Troels Lund Poulsen, takes note of the results.
"The results are not that different to the paper-based PISA survey. The government has long been aware that the primary and lower secondary school needs to improve significantly. I very much hope that we can succeed in gathering a majority to back our ambitious plan because we need to have a school system that is not only the world’s most expensive but the world’s best," says Troels Lund Poulsen.
