The UK is renowned for its inventiveness, calibre of scientific education and strong research base. Although our universities provide world-class research we have often struggled at taking these ideas into the market. How can we create the right conditions for R&D investment, promote greater collaboration and excellence in science and knowledge transfer?
At the forthcoming conference, SciTech: Innovation UK, we will be discussing how a dynamic UK science and technology base can lead the world in meeting the global and societal challenges that we face. How can Britain develop new technologies, nurture creativity and encourage world-beating products?
The conference will outline how the government will create the conditions for science, enterprise, technology and innovation to flourish.
With key speakers, such as:
Professor Keith Mason
Chief Executive, the Science and Technology Facilities Council ‘Developing innovation, excellence and knowledge frameworks’Discussing the STFC’s role in supporting enterprise, innovation and growth in the science industries.
Catherine Coates
Business Innovation Director, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) ‘Making the Most of Venture Capital, Business Partnerships and University Spin-Outs’
Dr Malcolm Parry OBE
Chairman of the United Kingdom Science Park Association and MD of Surrey Research Park
Followed by an afternoon panel debate entitled:
‘Capitalising on research and innovation’
The UK has a rich history of innovation and scientific excellence. Given the financial challenges facing many institutions, how do can we get more for less from our research base? Are we about to fall behind our global competitors or are there new opportunities to turn science into commerce?
