Ocean energy technologies exploit the power of tides and waves, as well as differences in sea temperatures and salinity, to produce electricity. The primary types of ocean energy are:

  • Tidal Stream
  • Wave Energy
  • OTEC & SWAC
  • Tidal Range.

Ocean Energy Europe (OEE) is the largest network of ocean energy professionals in the world, bringing together over 120 organisations, including Europe’s leading utilities, industrialists and research institutes.

OEE's mission is to create a strong environment for the development of ocean energy, improve access to funding, and enhance business opportunities for its members.

To achieve this, OEE engages with the European Institutions (Commission, Parliament, Council, EIB, etc), and national ministries on policy issues affecting the sector.

OEE also participates in publicly funded projects where there is a clear benefit to the sector as a whole.

Founded by OEE in 2013, ETIP Ocean – the Technology and Innovation Platform for Ocean Energy is an officially recognised advisory body to the European Commission on research priorities. It is funded by the Commission through Horizon2020.

OEE also works on the FORESEA and MaRINET2 projects. both of which provide support for testing offshore renewable energy technologies.
