The overall objective of the Catch-Mekong project is to provide innovative research, technol-ogies, and strategies for a sustainable and transboundary management of the natural water and land resources by applying cross-sectorial approaches based on international cooperation. Thereby, the environmental impacts of the numerous hydropower dams on the Mekong main-stream that are currently in the planning or under construction are of particular focus. In this context, both locale and transboundary effects of the hydropower dams will be analysed at different scales with respect to hydrological, biological, ecological and social aspects. Existing knowledge gaps will be filled.
